Pocket
VMACS
Introduction
What is is?
Pocket VMACS is the PDA version of VMACS. It was designed to allow students,
faculty, and staff to access patient records via their Pocket PC from
anywhere in the hospital (with wireless coverage).
How does it work?
Server software takes the pages that you would normally see if you were
using a desktop and 'clips' out the information that is most clinically
useful and reformats it for the PDA screen. Wireless access points
have been placed in key areas around the hospital (more will be added
in the future) which allow users with wirelessly-enabled PDA to
access the system.
What do I need to use
it?
You need two things.
1. You need a Pocket PC or Tungsten|C
2. For devices without built-in wireless, you need a wireless access card which will fit in your device. Several
manufacturers (Symbol, Socket, Netgear, Linksys, and D-Link) make cards
that will fit in the CF (CompactFlash) slot which most Pocket PCs have.
There are some new SD wireless cards which will work in SOME PDAs. Check to make sure your device supports it before buying...
