Spay Day 2009

Client Information

How can I register my pet to be spayed or neutered?

Pet registration is now limited to Cats -- call (916) 808-SPAY [7729] and leave a message. Appointments are made on a first-come, first-served basis.

If you called the number above previously and left a message, but haven't heard back, the staff at SAAC are working as hard as they can to return all calls. If you have not heard back from them, then you do not have an appointment (yet).

What pets are eligibile for Spay Day?

Spay day is restricted to healthy dogs and cats between the ages of 12 weeks and five years belonging to families with household incomes of $35,000/year or less. Low income pet owners can have up to two pets spayed or neutered for $15 per cat and $20 per dog.

What's in it for the Animals?

Each animal scheduled for a Spay Day appointment will receive:

What is the procedure for Spay Day?

Each animal will be assigned an appointment time for when it should be dropped off. All animals will be dropped of sometime on Saturday afternoon .

Starting on Sunday, animals will be spayed or neutered. Owners will be called to come and pick up their animal after it has recovered from anesthesia.

Are there any other resources for low-cost spay/neuter programs?

Additional information on low cost spay and neuter programs is available from the Sacramento Area Animal Coalition.

They also have a voucher program: 1-916-808-SPAY

What if I don't want my pet microchipped?

One of the goals of Spay Day is to help locate the owner if a pet ends up lost or at a shelter. Since Spay Day 2004, more than fifty animals and their owners have been reunited due to their microchip. All animals who participate in Spay Day must be microchipped.

Does the microchipping hurt the animal?

All pets will be vaccinated (if desired) and chipped while under general anesthesia, so they won't feel anything during the process.
